They are the professional home designers. Their field of expertise is designing commercial, residential, industrial or agricultural projects. Home designers do not require licensing to operate, unlike architects. To be a Certified Professional Building Designer (CPBD) you should have no less than six years experience, passed certification exam and completed all essential courses.

The service fees may vary but professional charge range between 3%- 6% of the whole construction cost. Home designers contribute 80% of project documentation presented for approval to the building council.

Types of Building Designers

1. Lighting Designer
They have knowledge of optics, vision, electricity and physics. They use these skills to get desirable lighting solutions. Lighting designer provides skillful, unique and independent designs with long term solutions.

2. Interior Designer
Through creativity, art and imagination, interior designers make a building attractive, organized and safe. They communicate with the client through their plan and present it visually. Interior design includes: lighting, color, space, and texture. The designers ensure the client is satisfied by understanding the project's technical and artistic description.

3. Electrical Designer
The task involves creating building electrical projects. The electrical designer should have the following electrical system features:

1. Specification document stating customer expectations which act as a reference during electrical design.
2. Functional design containing technical details and may contain electrical calculations.
3. Functional diagram drawn using computer programs. It shows information and flow of electric power.
4. Schematic diagrams which shows termination points, conductors and electrical interconnections.
5. Wiring diagrams indicating name of conductors and termination points
6. Wire connection

4. Building Envelope Specialist
Their main role is to maintain conducive exterior and interior building environment. Building envelope design is a major discipline in engineering and architectural practice. Building includes: exterior walls, waterproofing and roofing.

5. Structural Designer
Specialize in construction, repair, conservation, design and conversion. They ensure stability of a building or structure.
